STARON DESIGN AWARDS - WINNING ENTRY

CONCEPT KITCHEN

Inspired by the naturally occurring symmetry and duality within the human brain, I set out to create a luxury kitchen which is aesthetically harmonious by harnessing symmetry to create a sense of balance, and orderly geometry. The sheer flexibility of the Staron materials easily accommodates bespoke forms which provide a sense of proportion and thoughtful order. The design is not complex and is understated which allows Staron surfaces to come to life and emanate the intended ambiance of sophistication in the form of flowing simplicity

The kitchens duality plays an important role in its functionality. The front small service kitchen is easily accessible from the island bench and table. It has been designed with the intent to cater for guests, with a wine fridge, main fridge, food warmer, coffee facilities, purified water dispenser and quick access cupboards. It can be completely closed off and
hidden when not needed.

The rear kitchen functions as a traditional kitchen where the cook can create without stressing about the mess. The majority of the rear kitchen is hidden from the view of the living areas by the front

service kitchen and display wall, though guests at the dining table will be intrigued by glimpses of the Staron surfaces which can be viewed at both ends.

The Staron surfaces are an integral part of the harmonious and luxury aesthetic of the kitchen. Due to the minimalist lines and large surface areas of the kitchen the application of Staron surfaces creates the visual interest which invites the observer to immerse into the pure geometric form of the kitchen. The 6 different Staron surfaces selected in the design of the kitchen were specifically chosen to create contrast through colour and texture.

In combining the finishes from the Supreme Collection, Lights & Whites, Grey & Tempest collections allows for the surfaces to play off each other and enhance each other’s visual uniqueness. Yet the neutral and crisp tones work in harmony to evoke a sense of understated luxury. The natural hues and textures channels grounding energy and
subconsciously connects humans back to the earthly materials we evolved with as a species reinforcing a sense of familiarity, comfort and home.
