From the street, the clean lines of the parametric timber façade give a glimpse of what is to come. As customers walk into Country Road’s new flagship store on Oxford Street, they are greeted with a large ancient olive tree that rises out of the POS counter, a temporal anomaly in the contemporary setting, yet a tangible reminder of Country Roads significant heritage. The changing textures and elements of the store have been designed to accentuate changing textures and materials of Country Road’s clothing aesthetic.

The large spiraling staircase which curves extend into the ceiling and atrium transcends the traditional store formate creating an immersive journey and lifestyle experience. Stairs and walkways are important inclusions, as well as creating fixtures and interactive displays that guide customers through the store on a lifestyle journey that has a distinctive feel between each department with an encompassing brand message. Light timbers, concretes, raw brick textures and stone combined with plentiful

natural light manifests the relaxed, casual and un-contrived Australian lifestyle. All the spaces are created to invite a lightheartedness and a sense of exploration to move customers through the stores 1500sqm entirety. The clothing has been integrated into the design hanging like calligraphic scrolls, and graphic abstraction that is absorbed into the interior design of the store.

The store rises to a crescendo on the top level with is a true celebration of Australian inside-outside design philosophy of celebrating our climate. The top floors glass ceiling allows light to flood into the space, while the walk through joinery and interactive experience uses CNC cut screens allows dappled light through to create the sense of walking under a tree canopy as you browse the clothing racks. The impact solid wood throughout the store makes on the user, its nature, its touch and feel, qualities, flaws, different textures and colours...its smell permeates an authentic experience which invites you to live with Country Road.

Paddington is an inner-city area of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Located 3 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district and is often colloquially referred to as "Paddo". Paddington is a lively, upscale area with busy shops in the Victorian terraced buildings along Oxford Street and Five Ways. A cluster of boutiques at the Intersection showcases Australian design, while Paddington Markets sells trendy crafts and clothes. Nearby, Reservoir Gardens is a stylish park. Hip bistros and gay bars draw crowds at night

CONCEPT

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

The joyous and free Australian lifestyle and spirit permeates the Country Road design philosophy, the concept for the Oxford Street store is the be an extension of the free-flowing nature of the Australian way of life, whilst also capturing the understated style of the Paddington urbanite and bringing them together with a filtering simplicity.
