PERSPECTIVES PAVILION

WATSONS BAY, SYDNEY

The City landscape is deliberately developed and designed to assert meanings, messages, and advertisements. It is these environments, which trigger action and thought on a latent level of awareness, which can adversely affect our physical and mental wellbeing.  Australia is one of the most urbanized countries in the world, with 86% of the population living in urban areas. 86% of the population equates to 22 million Australians exposed to heightened and increased conditions, which may potentially erode a sense of wellbeing.

Perspective pavilions have been purposefully developed with the urban-dwelling human in mind. The belief that Architecture should be an extension of the human body and the mind seeks to create an urban sanctuary, a breathing space one in which we can address our deepest emotions and fulfill our desire for solitude amongst the hustle of the technological era. The freedom of expressing oneself with just a single scream.

The interior of the pavilion has been designed to mimic that of a cave, the mass of earth giving the feeling of security and being nurtured by mother earth. This has bee achieved by using rough chalkstone to create a feeling of mass and unrefined texture. The element of water has also been incorporated into the interior of the pavilion with a reflection pool. Humans are social beings who seek comfort in knowing that their situation is shared among others. The element of water blurs the boundaries of human barriers, where we can confess and share our emotions without the fear of being judged.

The monolithic cube has been placed in the center of the reflection pool to become a point of focus and concentration, to project one's emotion onto and let go. The geometric nature of the cube is echoed throughout the architecture of the pavilion. Strong lines and sharp angles are used to help the pavilion fade into the jiggered cliffs of Bluff Point Watsons Bay.

Perspectives pavilion uses infrared cameras programmed with an algorithm that can detect human emotions through heat signals of the human body. As you enter the space and oversee the tranquility of the reflection pool and the nurturing atmosphere of the pavilion.  Mood lighting installed in the pavilion will display your emotional colour signature calculated through the infrared camera and algorithm allowing the individual in the space to not only feel their emotions but see them as well. Hemi-sync will play throughout the pavilion, and through its powerful brain synchronisation frequencies, will calm and relax the observer, and allow this emotional change within them to be observed through the mood lighting in the pavilion.

What is Hemi-Sync?

Hemi-Sync is short for Hemispheric Synchronization, also known as brainwave synchronization. The technique synchronizes the two hemispheres of one’s brain, thereby creating a ‘frequency-following response’ designed to evoke certain effects. Hemi-Sync has been used for many purposes, including relaxation and sleep induction, learning and memory aids, helping those with physical and mental difficulties, and reaching altered states of consciousness through the use of sound..

SITE LOCATION

GAP BLUFF, WATSONS BAY

The Gap is one of Sydney’s most famous ocean cliff lookouts. The view from the track beside the stretch of cliff is simply stunning. The tall cliffs are enhanced by the rock platform and the pounding ocean far below. Sadly, this site is not only known for the natural wonder
